You can select quality fruits and vegetables, simply by looking at them. The appearance tells a little story about each piece of produce. Did an insect take a bite before you had the chance? Was the cantaloupe pulled too green or does its color give away the fact that it is overripe?

Any method of selecting produce will be subject to personal tastes and preferences. Choose produce based on how you plan to use it; an overripe peach may be perfect for immediate consumption or a delicious smoothie the same day, but would not be right for the freezer. Choosing produce in several stages of ripeness may allow you to have fresh things all week long.

The Farmers' Market Activity Calendar will include fun things for the entire family, including kids activities, craft and cooking demonstrations as well as community discussions on important issues surrounding food, food preparation and agriculture.

SWEET CORN
A freshly cooked ear of corn is a favorite of almost all Americans. This high-carbohydrate, high-starch vegetable is at its sweetest flavor when prepared immediately after being picked from the stalk.

Selection and Storage:
Fresh ears of corn will be filled with plump, creamy evenly placed kernels. The husks should be bright green with moist stem ends. Refrigerate un-husked if the corn is not to be cooked immediately.

Preparation and cook tips:Corn can be prepared in or out of the husk. Don’t shuck until just prior to cooking. Corn can be boiled, grilled or roasted.
